French Connection Tour to Poland May - June 2008

Day Date Travel Details                  >>>>>>> Clich HERE for Route Maps 1 Friday 30th May, 2008 Route map across UK Depart DSI Dublin via HSS or Swift ferries to Holyhead and Rosslare HSS to Fishguard in two groups making for the Stena Ferry in Harwich (Overnight on Harwich to Hook of Holland Ferry) 2 Saturday 31st May, 2008 Map for Hook of Holland to Leipzig Travel from Hook of Holland Ferry Terminal to Leipzig.  Stopped at the Mohne (Dambusters) dam for lunch. 3 Sunday 1st June, 2008 Map of Leipzig - Colditz - Prerov Depart Leipzig and make for the town of COLDITZ, tour the Castle and after a brief visit, make for the Czech Republic and via Prague to Prerov 4 Monday 2nd June, 2008 Map for Prerov - Auschwitz - Krakow (Bank Holiday) Short run to Auschwitz & Birkenau. After a tour of the camps and museum etc. continue to the city of Krakow 5 Tuesday 3rd June, 2008 Rest Day, Explored centre of Krakow and visited Wieliczka Salt Mine just outside the city of Krakow 6 Wednesday 4th June, 2008 Map for Krakow - Bautzen Depart Krakow for Bautzen/Dresden 7 Thursday 5th June, 2008 Map for Bautzen - Amsterdam Depart Dresden for Amsterdam 8 Friday 6th June, 2008 Rest Day - spit up into small groups and had various relaxed spins up around the north of Holland, across the long bridge etc. 9 Saturday 7th June, 2008 Back to Hook of Holland for Sat night ferry to Harwich 10 Sunday 8th June, 2008 Travel across the UK to either Holyhead or Fishguard for our respective ferries back to Ireland for around 5.30pm

Most of the group left from the offices of Down Syndrome Ireland to get a ferry from Dublin to Holyhead.  We drove across England to the port of Harwich to get an overnight Ferry to the Hook of Holland.  There we met the remainder of the group, who had taken a ferry from Rosslare to southern Wales.

We travelled through Holland, Germany, Czech Republic and Poland visiting Colditz Castle and Auschwitz. We had a rest day in Krakow where we visited the renowned salt mine.

On the return journey the group stopped off in Amsterdam for a rest day, enjoying a relaxing spin around Northern Holland. Some route maps are included in the table.
